Gerry Smith

Mr. Smith is an IDTP Senior Consultant specializing in Smart Card technology and secure identification systems, including biometrics applications. He has over 40 years of experience related to research, development, deployment and testing of card solutions, systems and terminals. His experience and background includes e-commerce solutions, security techniques, personalization policies and direct involvement with multiple-application smart card deployments. Mr. Smith is currently the IDTP program lead providing biometrics and smart card technical subject matter expertise (SME) over 16 years to TSA's Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) program. His project experience includes serving as technology leader and contributor to pioneering smart card initiatives in health care, identification and mobile communications including the American Express ExpressPay, Blue and IDKeeper programs. He is a featured speaker and panelist at smart card and biometrics technical conferences in the US and overseas. Mr. Smith has extensive experience in intellectual property (IP) management and is a recognized industry expert for litigation support. Mr. Smith has direct experience and background with various smart card operating systems and years of client-side programming experience using Java and Microsoft Visual Studio. Mr. Smith has been an active participant and contributor to many technical standards bodies, and has been serving in industry organizations including the Secure Technology Alliance (formerly the Smart Card Alliance), board member to GlobalPlatform and the Mobile Payment Forum. Mr. Smith attended Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology graduating cum laude with a degree in Electronics Engineering, and continued post graduate study at Rutgers University. He is a PMP and STA Certified Smart Card Industry Professional (CSCIP/G).
